The USPS - More Than Just a Government Agency
At Blue House, our goal is to serve you great coffee for you to enjoy in great places, with great people. As a part of this goal, however, our desire is to make our coffee as accessible as possible. Today, we want to make a dedicated space to highlight the United States Postal Service, without whom we would not be able to serve all of you in the way we do currently.
To any of you reading this who may have bought a bag of coffee online from us or regularly receive your coffee subscription in the mail, you have the USPS to thank. We love them because their aim is to make sending goods affordable for everyone. It’s not only us at Blue House who relies upon the USPS but the majority of small and local businesses in the United States.
So, in gratitude for their service to our nation, we want to share a few facts about the United States Postal Service that you may not be aware of (if you would like to learn more facts about the USPS, click here):
The USPS operates without receiving any tax money. Instead, they rely on the purchases consumers make such as buying stamps, postage, and other products and services.
The USPS actually processes and delivers almost half of the world’s mail.
The USPS is one of the largest veteran employers in the nation, employing almost 100,000 veterans.
The USPS is working to provide an environmentally friendly shipping service, by ensuring well-managed forests as a paper source and by creating boxes that are at least thirty percent recycled material.
More than just information, we also want to provide you with simple ways that you can support the USPS and all that they stand for.
Buy stamps, and for any shipping of items you may choose to do, choose to use the USPS. This is how they stay funded, so the more you choose to use them, the more funded they are to keep up their current services and to improve them even more.
Contact your local congressional representative to show your support of the USPS. The more the representatives hear from people in support of the USPS, the more likely it is that they will fight for policies to protect this national service.
Vote early. If you plan to vote by mail, do it early if possible, to avoid overwhelming the USPS. Here is a helpful site with more practical information on how to vote early properly.
Above all, one of the best ways to support the United States Postal Service is to simply realize what a wonderful service to this nation they truly are, and to live accordingly. At Blue House, we see their service first hand and as a token of appreciation for all they do, we encourage you to support them as well!
