How Can Your Coffee Ritual Help Rescue Some Piggies?

“I am fond of pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.” - Winston Churchill

At Blue House, one of our biggest passions is to use what we do to impact our community and to help those around us. Today, we’re excited to introduce to you a new way that we are doing just that, with the Lil Hog coffee roast! With every bag of Lil Hog beans you purchase, you ensure a donation to Better Piggies Rescue, a local sanctuary dedicated to the rescue and betterment of potbelly pigs in Arizona.

Lil Hog is made up of beans sourced from Guatelama and roasted right in our roasting garage in Downtown Phoenix. It is a medium roast and has delicious notes of brown sugar, walnut, marshmallow, and caramel. It is listed for sale on our website here, but it will also be made available at all of our normal farmers’ markets starting this Saturday and it will be an option for any new or previously existing coffee bag subscription!

Who Is Better Piggies Rescue?

Now that we’ve talked about our partnership with Better Piggies Rescue, let’s take a closer look at who they are!

Better Piggies Rescue is a non-profit organization whose mission began with the love that Danielle, their founder, had for the six adorable pigs that she was able to rescue and adopt herself. She desired to rescue and rehabilitate even more than just them, so she began Better Piggies Rescue in 2017

Established in Cave Creek, AZ, they work tirelessly to help potbelly pigs throughout Maricopa County and all the way up to the northern Arizona border. Their mission can be aptly described by these four aspects: Rescue, Rehabilitation, Adoption, Education. In doing all of this, they manage relationships with various other sanctuaries and veterinarians to ensure that the pigs receive the correct care.

At Blue House, we love what Better Piggies Rescue stands for and the impact that it has made. We’ve provided one way for you to help through your purchase of the Lil Hog roast, but if you love their mission like we do we encourage you to seek out other ways to support them!

You can adopt a pig, or join their “Sponsor a Pig” program! They also have various volunteer opportunities to help out, and you can even donate directly to them! If any of these options seem like something you’re interested in, click here to learn more!
